Everyone has their own preferred way of transportation in Shanghai, mine happens to be my bicycle. I have been cycling in China ever since my days in Beijing and has never look back. I have got ppl telling me "hey cycling is dangerous", "is tiring" and "why do you put yourself to so much agony?" but to tell u the truth I had not even one bit felt that it was tiring or an agony as it really is a good mode of transportation and it keeps me fit.
Why cycling?
I get to park my bicycle nearly everywhere, parking fee ain't expensive (only 6 Mao similar to 60 sens), I get to explore alot of places which most ppl don't really know about, I don't go through traffic jams, i get to where I want to go pretty quick and the best thing is I do not have to go through a starting meter of RMB 11 kuai.
The only bitchy thing is
I hate it when I have to cycle in the rain, my glasses get fogged up and I am soaking wet when I get to my destination. Other than that - nada
Things to remember when purchasing a bicycle -

Things to remember when purchasing a bicycle -
- Get a good bicycle - good brand GIANT
- Big basket to put your belongings
- Raincoat
- Good locks
- Bells - to ring irritating pedestrians who do not care if they are blocking your way
- Bitchiness - when you are annoyed with cyclist or pedestrians who pisses u off (what I do I yell at them)
- Hand gloves - to shield your hands from the cold in winter
- Helmet
- Last but not least - a face mask (I happen to love y face mask ppl laugh at them but seriously it blocks me from unnecessary dusk and polluted crap flying around)
